Well, I'm back from a weekend excursion to Disney World. Overall, it was a heck of a lot of fun, but getting back to BR proved to be a headache. But I don't want to start on a negative note, so let's go with the positive..
My flight left out of New Orleans at 5:30AM on Saturday morning. Everything was meticulously planned out without a lot of room for error. I even took my car in for some needed repairs on Wednesday and Friday so it wouldn't break down on the way to New Orleans...So I made sure everything was ok at the radio station on Friday night, went home and packed with a fury, and got about two hours of sleep. I made it to New Orleans with a little time to spare and hopped on the plane with my Ipod and my book (Blood Meridian by Cormac Mccarthy, if you're curious). For some reason, I had to fly to Houston first before heading to Orlando. Not a big deal. I made it to O-town around 10:45 and my posse and I headed off straight to Disney World!
Day one (Saturday) was spent at the Magic Kingdom. I was running on very little sleep and unfortunately there were bursts of rain that came and went throughout the day. Regardless, it was cool to be there (my first time!), and I rode most of the bigger rides...my favorite of the day would have to be probably Space Mountain. It was a little rough and jerky, which is cool. I like to feel like I'm about to die when I'm riding rides. What's the fun otherwise? After that, we had some dinner and then I passed out.
Sunday, I woke up refreshed and ready to go. We rolled out to Epcot. The weather was really nice, and lines weren't nearly as long as I thought they might be. One thing I noticed about Disney, and especially Epcot, is that there are a lot of (surprise) educational things there. I found that kind of funny but I liked it. Sneakin that stuff into the kids! The various countries was a cool touch at Epcot, but I tried some Norwegian candy that tasted like vomit. Yum. The day concluded with a very elaborate firework show. How do they do that every night?
My last day, Monday, was spent at Hollywood Studios (formerly known as MGM Studios). This place had my favorite two rides, The Tower of Terror and the Rock N Roll Rollercoaster (w/ Aerosmith!). Again, the lines weren't too bad. I was kind of expecting the worst with it being Memorial Day. It's all about the Fastpass! I saw the most 104 the X listeners at Hollywood Studios. The backlot tour was pretty cool, but the guy doing the narrating could use some work. I say that, but he was probably saying that stuff for the 38575th time that day and was ready to go home. The day ended with a huge Fantasmik show at a lake. Those big day-ending shows kind of blow my mind. I really don't understand how they do it EVERY night.
Tuesday, my flight was scheduled to roll out at 10:55, which would have had me back in NO at 11:50 with enough time to get to work. I'm not going to get into exactly what happened, but let's just say it sucked and I got delayed at the airport until 2:55, which wrecked all my plans. I had to call Dan and switch shifts. I walked all around the Orlando airport for hours because I was too d@mn frustrated to read my book. Finally, I just sat there with the book and listened to Nine Inch Nails "Ghosts I-IV", which is a d@mn long instrumental cd. I flew by in a very small plane, which was kind of a bonus adventure. Then when I finally got into New orleans, I get to my car and the darn battery was dead. Ugh. Luckily, a guy from the parking garbage was walking by and called for the portable thing that jumps cars off. It took a little while, but they finally got it going. It had some issues, though. When I turned the air on, it died. When I hit the brake, the radio died. So I drove by to BRin the afternoon heat with no AC and no radio. I drove straight to the radio station to take over for Dan. I worked that 7 to midnight shift knowing that I would need someone to jump my car off when I left. Dan graciously let me borrow his jumper cables and at 1AM, with the security guard's help, I jump my car off and (barely) made it home. My roommate knows a bit about cars, so he came out and took at look. After trying out everything, we figured it must just be the battery itself. So I went to bed at 3AM, got up and did my AM shift, then bought a new car battery and installed that puppy. As of now, it seems to be working. I'm just waiting to see what's next to break on my car. Maybe it's time to invest in something new?
But overall, the disney adventure was a lot of fun, and I recommend it to you if you haven't been!
