Last night was of course the big national championship game in New Orleans, so I figured I'd take the trip to the Big Easy and experience what was going on. I left the radio station after my shift at 7PM. There was absolutely no traffic all the way to NO, which was very welcome. I was worried about parking, but found a spot on the street. A FREE spot! It was right next to $50 parking too. That was another plus. I ended up meeting some friends and actually seeing the game at some BBQ place off of Bourbon. After that we wandered the streets for a bit. As it got later, the streets got more crowded and the crowds got more and more noticeably drunk. I was keeping a low profile because I drove so I was able to get a nice sober perspective on the drunkedness. People are weird. It was cool for a while, but after it started getting BODYTOBODY crowded on the streets, we decided it was time to jet. That drive home from New Orleans never gets any easier.
I saw a couple of movies over the weekend...JUNO, which was a neat little movie with a good heart. I was a little worried after the first couple of minutes because the dialogue was in teenspeak, which is a language I'm starting to not understand. But after the characters were developed, the movie picked up a good flow. It was a little crude at points, but I think it had good intentions and some intelligence, so kudos to JUNO!
I also saw ATONEMENT, which is a "sweeping romantic epic" that has been mentioned as one of the best movies of 2007. I didn't think it lived up to that standard, but it wasn't a bad movie. Fellas, bring your ladies to this one.
I'm really looking forward to THERE WILL BE BLOOD, coming next week! I really enjoyed PT Anderson's previous movies, "Boogie Nights," "Magnolia," and especially "Punch Drunk Love."
