I had a pretty nice scare the other day.It was late on that really foggy Saturday night we had on January 5th.I was driving home and when I got a block away from my house, I saw something in the middle of the road.At first, I thought it was a dog but as I got closer, I noticed it was someone standing in the middle of the road on a foggy night. Now if it had been daylight, I would have stopped and told the guy he could die by doing what he was doing, but I have a rule that I do not stop for anyone, not even grandmas after 2 A.M.So I started honking my horn and he started waving at me.I slowed down but did not stop moving and kept honking. As I got about 10 feet away, I noticed that he had a gun in his hand and started to point at me.So I continued to honk and sped past him.It happened pretty fast and was a little freaky. So if you were playing in the street that foggy night and pointed a gun at a passing car that was honking at you it was probably me and I am going to invite you to never do that again, not for my own safety, but for your own because lesser drivers may have done something more dangerous to your livelihood.
Now on to some lighter issues, the other day I saw the movie Juno.It is about a girl who gets pregnant at 16 and decided to have the baby then give it up for adoption.Maybe it was a 16-year-old girl getting pregnant that got to me or maybe it was the fact that I barely knew what a girl looked like at 16 but the movie freaked me out for a little. The writers should have dumbed the script down a little bit because the whole movie I had to keep telling myself that the girl was 16 because she spoke like a 30-year-old.Also the producers needed to pay a little more attention to detail because the baby’s daddy was a track star who ran distance events and every time he stopped running he was not sweating or out of breath. They did do a good job of capturing what it most likely would feel like to be 16 and be having a baby.Overall, it was a good movie and had a good message, I suggest that you either sneak into it or rent it when it comes out on DVD.
After the movie I caught the reincarnation of American Gladiators.I can remember watching it as a kid and thinking it was the greatest thing on earth. It is still pretty solid. When the people fall of pedestals or off the rings in challenges they fall into water now instead of padding.Hulk Hogan is the host and I grew up a little Hulk-A-Maniac, so I have love for the host. The funniest part of the show was when the guys completed the final obstacle course in 3 minutes and 47 seconds and the ladies completed the same obstacle course in 2 minutes and 20 seconds. Those guys need their manhood checked.
Finally, I listened to the new Spill Canvas CD entitled “No Really, I’m Fine”.If you are a pop/rock fan you will probably like this CD.It is catchy with good hooks and is effective with both its slower songs and faster songs. The track “All Over You”, that can be heard on 104 the X is a good sampling of what the CD sounds like.Lead singer Nick Thomas is not a fan of the critics and he makes that clear at the very beginning of the very first song on the CD, but it is a quality CD that the critics should to harsh when judging it.
This coming Saturday is the Krewe of Jupiter Parade.Get ready and make some 104 the X signs because if we see you, you will be inundated with 104 the X and U.S. Army party cups. You have to love Mardi Gras.
