I have spent some serious money over the past couple of days. I am in no way a money driven person but I hate having to spend it on frivolous things. It started with my rent going up by a lofty amount. You always have to like paying more for basically the same thing. Then Thursday night as I left work, I noticed that I had a flat tire, so I had to change it at two in the morning, by myself in front of the 104 The X building. I also had two bald front tires so I had to get four new ones. Finally, my roommate is getting married so I had to buy him a nice gift. Hopefully, he not only appreciates the thought behind the gift but also the money behind it. Now time for a long saving process.
I did do some positive things this weekend. I rented the movie “Superbad”. I had heard that “Superbad” was super bad, but to my surprise it was a quality movie. Not only was it funny, it was pretty true to my high school life with the exception of the guys getting girls at the end, my friends and I never got the girls. The only part of the movie that was not entertaining was when writer Seth Rogan tried to assert himself as the star. He just tried to hard to be funny and it messed up the flow of the movie. Oddly enough, I could have done without him in his own movie.
In addition to seeing “Superbad” I watched the Superbowl. When I was a kid, the Superbowl was a big joke, it was always a blow out and it was basically won by the same teams every year. All that has changed over the past several years, no longer are the commercials better than the game, the game is better than the commercials. Hours before the match up, I was taking predictions on the air but I was weary of making my own because if I went with the obvious prediction and for some miraculous reason the Giants won, I would have looked stupid, but if I picked the Giants and the Patriots won, then I would have kicked myself for not picking the obvious. I was definitely cheering for the Giants and they came through with the biggest Superbowl upset since Superbowl III, when Broadway Joe guaranteed a win. I should have predicted the Giants.
Jack Johnson’s “Sleep through the Static” and Bullet for My Valentine’s “Scream, Aim, Fire” were two CDs that found their way into my CD player. “Sleep through the Static” is a little darker than some of Jack Johnson’s previous stuff. Bullet For My Valentine gives there drummer and guitar player a good work out on “Scream, Aim, Fire” because there are some serious guitar solos and drum action, not to mention a few ballads. Neither artist really deviates from their past sound so if you like the laid-back music of Jack Johnson or the hard-on rock sounds of Bullet for My Valentine, you will like the new albums.
