Friday was an interesting day with The Bravery. I picked them up for their interview around 3:30 P.M. and their lead singer Sam Endicott was on the phone with producer Brendan O’Brien. After he got off the phone and into the car, he started telling me about all types of high profile albums that O’Brien was about to start working on, which is kind of weird because artists usually do not disclose that type of information much less the information that he was telling me because no one really knows about it yet. Endicott was a really cool guy and was very intelligent. I could see that he had a true passion for music and was not just in a band to get drugs and girls.
That night when I got off work, I shot over to The Varsity to check those guys out and to my surprise; I had only missed about four songs. I usually miss the whole show, so I was doing well. The crowd was really into the show singing word for word to every song and dancing like crazy. Needless to say, The Bravery did a good job. After the show The Fish and I went to congratulate them and they were ready to party. They were about to go out and get crazy, I guess it did not get to crazy because I did not read headlines the next day saying, “The Bravery Arrested”. Hopefully, those guys come back to Baton Rouge soon.
On Saturday night I caught the movie “Fool’s Gold”. At first I thought that I would hate it, but it was heavier on the action and lighter on the love story which was pretty cool. The story is about a guy (Matthew McConaughey) who is a treasure hunter and his career dominates his life so much that his wife (Kate Hudson), who wants to be an historian, divorces him. Right after the divorce is finalized McConaughey makes a discovery that will help lead them to finding treasure that they had been searching for forever and they start working together and eventually fall back in love. There are twists and turns along the way and McConaughey gets beat up a lot but it was better than average.
Horseback riding was on my calendar for Sunday. I had ridden a horse once before in Mexico and I have to say horses in Mexico are way more wild than horses in America. In Mexico, the second you get on them, they try to take off running. In America it is hard to get them to even trot. I like a little danger when I am messing with animals that are bigger than me, but I should be careful because next time I ride a horse he or she will probably show me who is boss just to spite me. I am in no way a country boy but if you ever get a chance to ride a horse give it a shot it is pretty fun stuff.
