Busy couple of days in the world of 104 the X. It started on Thursday and Friday, when The Fish and I went to Bernard Terrace Elementary to speak at Career Day. The first day was Kindergarten through 2nd grade. The kids were really nice, a couple of them rapped for us and they kept asking us what we sang. I would have bust into song but I figured they would not appreciate it. The second day we spoke to the 3rd, 4th and 5th graders. It was a tougher crowd because they had distractions. Chic-fil-A brought a dude in a 7 foot cow costume and Jaguar Man from Southern’s Campus showed up there. I am still wondering what a costumed man speaks about at career day.
On Sunday, The Fish and myself headed down to The House of Blues in New Orleans to catch Rage Against the Machine guitarist Tom Morrello perform as his solo project The Nightwatchman on the Justice Tour. It was a star studded night with appearances by State Radio, Perry Farrell, Etty Lau Farrell and Wayne Kramer, to name a few. For those that do not know The Nightwatchman plays folk music about social justice, so all the people that showed up in Rage shirts were greatly disappointed. I would like to say that State Radio put on a good show, but I really could not tell because they only played three songs. Perry Farrell did bring the heat on Sunday night, he sang, danced and brought life to the crowd. After the show, we decided to eat at a pizza place down the street. We sat by the window. As we ate we noticed that Tom Morrello was sitting on the other side of our window signing autographs. Someone in our crew offered him a slice of pizza and he told us to hold on, then five minutes later asked for the slice. Now Rage makes millions of dollars a year, Morrello could have thrown down two dollars for the pizza he took. Haha.
Finally, I recently got my hair cut and everyone has been telling me that they want to see a before and after picture so here it is. E-mail me at dan@104thex.com and let me know which you prefer.
