New Year’s is always an exiting time. I have spent the past five New Year’s Eves out of town. I figured the authorities in other states would not have my prints. This year I worked right up to midnight, then raced out to a local bar and ordered a long island iced tea and started celebrating. I watched one New Year’s celebration with Kid Rock and I have to say the guy editing it must have been drunk because he missed the cuss words and edited the straight words. Maybe it was the ice tea talking but the celebration I watched was 30 minutes late, which is kind of crappy.
I also saw “Sweeny Todd”. Unbeknownst to me and much of the audience at the theatre, it is a musical. After Johnny Depp’s first note of singing you could feel the energy drop out of the place. At the 20 minute mark people started walking out of the theatre. An hour into it, kids were bored and trying to find other ways to entertain themselves and adults got up and down to use their phones and restrooms more than usual. The person sitting next to me even asked what time it was so that they could judge how much of the movie was left. When it finally ended, you could hear a collective sigh of relief and disgust. As I walked out I heard a guy ask his wife if she thought it was good and she did not respond just continued to look forward with a horrible look on her face. I, personally, am a fan of Johnny Depp’s acting and I have heard he is a great guy but if I ever meet him and the subject of “Sweeny Todd” pops up I will have try to change the subject fast because I try to be a positive person as much as possible.
