Last week was the much-anticipated 104 the X-mas Bash at the Texas Club. Thanks to everyone for coming out. I thought both nights went really well, and the bands all put on a great show. In particular, I enjoyed Coheed&Cambria, Shiny Toy Guns, and Flyleaf. It felt kind of weird this year because it was actually quite warm outside. Last year, I can remember standing outside waiting to intro 30 Seconds to Mars and watching as all the girls were shivering outside the 30STM bus waiting for a glimpse of Jared. This year it was a short sleeve night!
On Thursday, Flyleaf and Shiny Toy Guns stopped by the studio before the show. Flyleaf are one of the nicest bands I've ever met, and they were very gracious to all the fans for their success. Shiny Toy Guns were cool too.
I feel like a big part of my life is gone now that the X-mas Bash is over. We devoted a lot of energy to putting those shows together and it's been weird adjusting to life. But the good news is...X-Fest is on the way.
Friday afternoon Dan and I had a guest MC appearance at Starkey Academy in Central. It was quite the good time. We arrived there and found signs announcing our appearance. The students were super excited. The neat thing was that Starkey is a Pre K through 12th grade school, so we had students of all ages going crazy. I'm still waiting for someone to send me the pictures!
On the way back from Starkey, we saw a guy selling 20 Ribeye steaks for $20 on the side of the road. It had me confused for the rest of the day.
Over the weekend, I watched the movie RESCUE DAWN. It's a Werner Herzog directed movie starring Christian Bale about the true story of a POW escape in Vietnam. I've seen a few Werner Herzog movies(Fitzcarraldo, Grizzly Man), and the thing I like about them is that they are usually about very strong, purpose-driven people. This one is no exception and as always, Bale does a great job conveying a strong character. It's a POW-escape movie, but don't expect RAMBO or anything here. More character-driven than action driven, which is the way I like it.
