So last Friday I made the trek to Atlanta. It was a pleasant drive there...It wasn't until the next day that I found out that a tornado had ripped through downtown ATL. What's weird is that I drove through downtown around 8:30 and the tornado hit around 9:30. When I drove through, I saw no signs of any major weather disturbance. It wasn't even raining. The news sources in Atlanta sure were all over the coverage. I watched a lot of the local news and every report was on the tornados. I mean, I guess it was pretty odd for a tornado to hit a major city's downtown, and there were some broken windows, but you'd think that it was a lot more than it was by watching that news.
Overall, it was an altogether chilled out trip visiting some people in Atlanta. I didn't check my email, didn't check myspace, barely heard from work, barely even read any newspapers (except for TORNADO coverage). It was quite the change from my everyday life. I'm finding it's good to do that from time to time.
Wednesday, I drove straight back to BR and right to the 104 the X studio where I found a big mountain of work. That's the only sucky thing about a vacation..things don't stop - they just build up. I feel bad for Dan because I'm sure he had a lot to deal with while I was gone. But I was able to get right to it and knock out most of the stuff.
I read The Road by Cormac McCarthy over the weekend and I have to say it’s a darn good book. I know there are a thousand different books and movies out there about a post-apocalyptic world blah blah blah, but this one is one of the better ones. It’s less about what happened, explanations, or what happens next, and more about the present moment. So if you’re looking for a big fight or a masterplan to reinvigorate the world, go read The Stand or something. Cormac also writes in a weird style with no quotations. It’s a quick, simple read but also contains a lot of little nuggets in there. There’s a movie being made about it and I hope they don’t change much because I think it could end up being real good.
Dan and I shot a TV commercial for X-fest this morning in front of the River Center. I've done a lot of TV stuff before (co-hosted Planet Buzz for awhile, worked at UPN THE BLOCK for a bit), but it's been a little while. It was very windy out there and my hair was flying. I'm very curious to see the finished product. haha.
